Once Mitte was not as hip as now, it used to be a hang-out joint for international student boheme. This when we got to know about “Weinerei”. Those are very “Berlin style” wine bars at the border of Prenzlauerberg and Mitte, which run on the fair honour-based principle. Apparently the principle keeps working for some years already. So, a visiter can rent a glass for a minimal price (meanwhile, for 2 eur) and taste as many wines as are exposed, in the end leaving money as much as one considers fair, in a common bowl. In addition to this, the filial “Frarosa” offers 3 course- and really tasty!- menus (from 8pm, consider reserving a table, because it is very popular), and the donation for a cook is also up to a guest’s decision. In the more easygoing bar “Perlin”, which belongs to the same owner, they offer some sort of buffet, also in the evening.
